Geeky tidbit of the day: If Peabody and Princess produce offspring, their offspring will be India Blue split to Black Shoulder. They *should* (if the old genetics lessons stuck correctly) appear as India Blue (think: Peabody) but carry Princess’s Black Shoulder genes.
ANYWAY. Peabody and Princess met today. They seem to like each other. Time will tell if they “like” like each other or are just pals. Peabody needs some veterinary care, so he’s temporarily penned up, and since Princess’s acclimation period isn’t up yet, well, they’re roomies.
The kids are getting a kick out of watching them, although I kept them away quite a bit, because poor Peabody does NOT like being picked up. He’s tame, and seems to feel that this is all that’s required. Ultimately, it WILL be all that’s required. For now though, he’s got to have some care to get rid of the mites/lice and the cyst on his cheek. I’m just grateful that he’s not aggressive, to humans or to his new pal.
Want to see what that tail looks like when it gets in the way? Princess is getting pretty good at ducking it!
This is one of the best images that I’ve gotten of Princess so far. Have I mentioned that I tend to call her “Mama?” If I slip up, no we don’t have a third peafowl. She isn’t quite as flashy at Peabody, but is beautiful in her own right.
This peafowl adventure has really become a learning experience. Yes, they’re slightly more involved than chickens. But then, I consider these guys more of a “pet” than uh…well….dinner.
Are you enjoying the Peabody posts? Should we continue, or is it boring now? Leave your comments (be respectful, please) and let us know. 🙂
